The Virtues of Ventilation, with Dri-Vent
by Jonny Paulton | October 09, 2023
As the outside temperature starts to drop, excessive moisture in the air inside can lead to condensation forming which, in turn, can promote the growth of mildew and mould. This is particularly an issue in caravans and motorhomes due to the confined living spaces and the greater exposure to the elements.
The presence of black mould is alarming as it can contribute towards significant respiratory issues. The tell-tale sign of small, speckled black dots means action needs to be taken to remedy both the mould and the cause of it.
Condensation can form on both hard surfaces, such as on windows or in cupboards, and soft surfaces, such as on seat cushions and curtains. One surface that may not be be considered or even obvious, however, is between the mattress and the bed. Normally, condensation can be kept at bay with the use of tubular heaters or dehumidifiers, but this is reliant on electricity being available where the vehicle is stored. When power isn’t an option, ventilation is the next necessary step. Opening doors and windows, particularly on a dry, breezy day, to increase the airflow in the vehicle, can help to prevent or dry out condensation and limit the growth of mould, but what can you do as far as beds are concerned?
Enter Dri-Vent, our anti-moisture underlay, specifically designed for use under mattresses.
The unique design of Dri-Vent allows air to flow between the bed and the mattress. The semi-rigid, wire structure is strong enough to lift up and support the mattress, as well as anyone occupying the bed, but flexible enough to still provide a comfortable night’s sleep.
Dri-Vent is supplied in 2m x 1m rolls, making it ideal for a single bed. For larger beds, multiple sheets can be laid down and joined with heavy-duty, double-sided tape.
With autumn now setting in, do not delay and make sure Dri-Vent is part of your fight against condensation, mildew, and mould.
